The Little House

Winner of the MBA Tasmania Awards for Excellence 2023 Best Renovation $650,000 to $1 million, the Little House is a dramatic extension and addition to an existing heritage listed shed on a small, inner city Launceston block. Featuring contemporary design, construction methods and build materials, The Little House is a striking project.

External features of this award winning renovation include roof and wall cladding of nail strip 260mm pan with a 38mm nib and the use of structural steel as the main framing including hips and ridges. Pre-cast concrete panels have been used as a major part of the build to dramatic effect.

Internal stand-out features include blackbutt ceilings, staircases and floors, finished with Fidde’s hard wax oil. Honed concrete flooring forms another dramatic internal feature. Construction involved working with an original heritage listed shed, so careful removal and reinstallation of original timber jambs and levelling floors have been incorporated into the build process.

Care and attention to detail have been taken at every stage of this project with the result being a renovation of outstanding quality and workmanship.
