Bicheno Beach House

Relaxed, casual, sustainable and sophisticated this home has been designed to maximise views and to provide privacy and comfort. A finalist in the 2020 Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence, this new dwelling construction showcases varied and complex finishes, new and recycled materials and quality craftsmanship.

The home’s exterior features charred Blackbutt cladding and fascia, rendered blockwork and areas of Corten panelling. The exterior claddings ensure BAL ratings are unobtrusively met and provide a unique aesthetic. Diagonally placed locally milled macrocarpa posts form a dramatic support to the upper deck.

Indoors, recycled and sustainable timber and materials have been used extensively, imbuing the home with warmth, interest and character. Massive Canadian-fir timber beams, which began life as ship’s ballast and which were later used in the mid-1800s as Salamanca wharf materials, now extend dramatically along the living area ceilings. A further highlight is the feature wall built from Tasmanian convict bricks. The bricks themselves have been strategically laid by Marty Jordan Heritage Bricklaying to allow visibility of convict stamps. The home also features painstakingly laid recycled hardwood floors, salvaged from the Fingal Valley.

High quality finishes and craftsmanship feature throughout the home. A perfect example is the custom-made industrial concrete table which flows seamlessly from indoors to out. Other features include a copper bath and meticulously tiled bathrooms.

With its unique combination of recycled and new, the Bicheno beach house is an immaculate, comfortable and beautifully finished home brought to life by Inhabit Construction.
